Starnex – Bluetooth Button Camera

Starnex Korea unveiled the $670 USD Self-Guard (SG-210) portable audio and video recording device that can do audio/video data compression. The button-sized camera makes things interesting, as you can wear the button that is connected to a miniscule console that could be kept discreetly in the pocket. Data is transmitted in real-time via Bluetooth. A motion sensor can be set to start recording when an object moves. Its 128MB memory can be expanded via a memory slot and runs for 4.5 hours per charge. Records 15fps at up-to 640X480 resolution.

Deja View – Camwear Model 100

The Camwear Model 100 is a breakthrough in after-the-fact technology and wearable hands-free video. The Camwear is capable of looking backward so those special moments just witnessed are not lost. The previous 30 seconds of what had already been seen is captured by the simple press of a button. Its so small you can attach it to the bill of a hat or the frame of your glasses.

ESPRE Solutions – eViewLink

eViewLink puts the power of expert assistance, command and control, and job monitoring into a PDA. Able to capture, compress, store and send audio/video in real-time, the eViewLink visual connection reduces or eliminates the need for specialized personnel to be physically on-site to accomplish a task requiring their expertise. The eViewLink incorporates 802.11b wireless IP video and two-way audio communicaton and provides wearable, hands-free operation with a headset camera.

Second Sight Surveillance – Double Vision

Double Vision Pro uses the new-to-market Digital Video Recorder which allows video data to be digitised and recorded to a 2.5″ hard drive. “Real-time” video images can be copied direct from the unit, or alternatively, the hard drive can be removed and placed in a PC installed with DV Pro software and a download receptor, then copied at high speed. The DVR is smaller than tape-based units and has a separate lithium ion power source. The DV Pro is designed so that it can also be worn in a modified utility vest, as used by the UK police (available as an accessory).

Microsoft Research – SenseCam

SenseCam is a badge-sized wearable camera that captures up to 2000 VGA images per day into 128Mbyte FLASH memory. In addition, sensor data such as movement, light level and temperature is recorded every second. This is similar to an aircraft Black Box accident recorder but miniaturised for the human body. It could help with memory recall, e.g. where did I leave my spectacles or keys? who did I meet last week? by doing a rewind of the days events. If a person has an accident, the events and images leading up to this will be recorded, and these could be useful to medical staff. It could also be used for automatic diary generation.
